Summary
The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute (GEHLI) in the VCU L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs welcomes applications for a Program Specialistposition. This full-time position will provide support to existing programs in the Wilder School and collaborate with staff to ensure that those who deliver programs are fully prepared.
The GEHLI offers an integrated series of programs that develop critical skills at the supervisory, management, and senior leadership levels. We offer competency-based curricula utilizing proven practices delivered by engaging, highly experienced professionals. This position is to give administrative support for training, facilitation, preparation and set up of training classes and events, leading small design projects, editing and collating thematic research and data analysis, researching and writing articles for publication, capturing and advancing the public history of GEHLI.
The Program Specialist will also engage with clients, hotels, editors, program applicants, and vendors along with administer and provide support for assessments, and actively engage participants to ensure a positive experience at events. The Program Specialist must be willing to work in-person at the office, as well as occasionally travel out of town to events, and work remotely.Because of remote working, duties also include extensive knowledge of ZOOM and Google Meet.
This is a restricted position with renewal beyond the first year reliant upon the availability of funding.

Typical Duties
· Coordinate programmatic activities (typically long-term or reoccurring).
· Provide professional-level administrative duties.
· Coordinate timelines, estimates, and reports regarding the program.
· Provide planning, organization, and coordination support for the various functions of the program.
· Pitch and prepare articles and written works for publication.
· Conduct research for the institute and assist with historical preservation of Grace E. Harris's leadership legacy.
· Ability to perform budgetary and fiscal management, personnel management, procurement, and other program support activities.
Minimum Hiring Standard:
· · Bachelor's degree or equivalency of education, experience, and training.
· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
· Experience working with a variety of online platforms, hosting and co-hosting meetings.
· Demonstrated experience with analytic and critical thinking skills.
· Ability to work independently, but in a collaborative team environment while problem-solving, utilizing time management and interpersonal skills.
· General knowledge of computer applications utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access for day-to-day operations along with creating infographics, charts, and graphs.
· Experience with research processes, principles, and design.
· Ability to use standard office, procurement, and academic software and maintain the unit's public social accounts.
· · Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so at VCU.
· Ability to travel to assist with events and engage clients.
· · Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
· Experience working with state agencies or state/local government.
· Experience administrating various assessments including DISC, MBTI, Platinum Rule, FourSight Inventory, and Insight Inventory.
· Experience with 360-degree feedback.
· Experience using online managing and registration platforms such as Cvent and Smartsheets.
· Understanding and crafting public history assignments.
· Experience managing an office including office maintenance, inventory, and supplies.
· Experience co-authoring manuscripts, articles, book chapters, and/or white papers, presenting and disseminating research findings.
· Demonstrated experience training others.
· Experience interviewing, hiring, and managing student workers.
· Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
