Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to the women of central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinical research. The Department is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Finally, Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the University Community.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking qualified candidates to provide OB/GYN specialty and Complex Family Planning subspecialty care, including but not limited to early pregnancy failure, contraception, and family planning services. Complex Family Planning is currently an underserved clinical subspecialty in central Virginia and neighboring regions. The position will also include in- and outpatient consultation and performance of therapeutic procedures in the outpatient setting, the operating room, and at off-site locations in collaboration with other clinics. This position will include participation in student and resident education as well as in the department's clinical research

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to include actively participating in the department's educational activities, with particular attention to educating students and residents in their core educational objectives in obstetrics, gynecology, and family planning.

Research
The person filling this position is encouraged to initiate clinical research projects. They are expected to participate in and facilitate other department research and contribute to scholarly publications/presentations.

Service
The faculty member will serve on departmental, health system, and university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field. The faculty member will be assigned to committees at the discretion of the division director and department chair.

Clinical
Full participation in the clinical activities of the complex family planning section is expected. Clinical activities are to be determined by the general obstetrics and gynecology division chief and complex family planning section chief and are expected to include a combination of clinic, inpatient care, surgery, and participation in nighttime call duties as appropriate.

Other
The faculty member will participate in department and institutional administrative activities as assigned by the division chief and department chair.

Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
  • Eligible for medical license in Virginia
  • Completion of training in Obstetrics and Gynecology equivalent to ACGME and ABOG accredited residency programs
  • Completion of training in Complex Family Planning equivalent to ACGME accredited fellowship programs
  • Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency
  • Demonstrated talent and experience in teaching and commitment to research, and patient care
  • BC/BE by the American Board of OB/GYN in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • BC/BE by the American Board of OB/GYN in Complex Family Planning
