Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Department of Plant Sciences (UTIA)

POSITION: A postdoctoral research associate position in the area of Plant Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is available in the laboratory of Feng Chen at the University of Tennessee in the Department of Plant Sciences. The successful candidate will employ interdisciplinary approaches including molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics techniques to elucidate a plant pathway for insect hormone biosynthesis and engineer the pathway into tomato to test resistance against insects.

Qualifications :

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will:
  • Develop and test hypotheses related to the biosynthetic pathway leading to insect hormones in plants.
  • Perform metabolic engineering in tomato and test transgenic plants for insect resistance.
  • Design and conduct research experiments, analyze data and summarize the results.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and conferences.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers.
  • Work closely with the principal investigator in executing research objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in Plant Biology or related fields is required. The successful candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience (e.g., publications) in plant molecular biology and biochemistry. Experience in plant secondary metabolism is highly desirable.

The appointment is available immediately. Continuation of this grant-funded position is contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
