Description
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a unique non-tenure track lecturer position in the area of quantum computing and quantum information physics starting August 1, 2023. The primary teaching appointment will be at 75% to develop and teach introductory and upper-level physics courses, and potentially graduate courses, in quantum information and quantum computing with the opportunity to spend 25% time devoted to research in this area. Based on a standard teaching load, this would represent an assignment of three (3) courses (or lab equivalent) per semester with two semesters per year, and may include both in-person traditional and asynchronous online course delivery. For the qualified candidate, the Department would seek an appointment as a Research Assistant Professor allowing them to support up to 25% of their 12-month effort to pursue research either through funded collaborations or by identifying and securing their own extramural funding in this dynamic area. With approval by the Faculty, this appointment may also come with the ability to mentor graduate students and supervise student research projects.
This non-tenure-track position is renewable yearly, contingent upon evidence of excellent teaching, demand for instruction, and availability of funds, and comes with full benefits.
