The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Radiology.

In 1890, the world's first x-ray image was produced at Penn, with the Department of Radiology being founded in 1939. Penn Radiology has a proud and rich combination of academic activities and service contributions since its founding, having systematically built clinical, research, and educational programs that have become deeply integrated into the fabric of Penn Medicine, the University, and the community. Today, Penn Radiology is consistently among the nation's top recipients of funding for biomedical research from the National Institutes of Health and its residency program stands at the top in the nation. The Department is dedicated to offering the best care and technology available, providing patients and physicians with a full range of cutting-edge imaging techniques and specialized expertise, having received national recognition for its commitment to innovation.

In addition to excellence in its tripartite mission, the Department of Radiology has substantive ties to multiple centers, institutes, departments and other schools on campus. Penn Radiology is closely aligned with the Penn Center for Practice Transformation (CPX) and Penn Center for AI and Data Science for Integrated Diagnostics (AI2D). It also has collaborative relationships with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, in addition to key partnerships with the departments of Bioengineering, Emergency Medicine, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, and Surgery.

The Chair of the Department directs over 200 faculty members, with the department currently conducting more than 1 million diagnostic and therapeutic procedures annually: 319,000 at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, 83,000 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, 472,000 through Community Radiology, and 171,000 at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Major hospital sites for clinical and educational activities include the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH), Chester County Hospital (CCH), Princeton Medical Center (PMC) the Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center (CVAMC), and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), all institutions of great distinction and diversity. Outpatient care is provided at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM), Penn Medicine University City (PMUC), Penn Radiology Cherry Hill, with the newest multispecialty practice located at Penn Medicine Radnor. The Department is a member of the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP) and the Chair serves as a member of the Board of Directors of CPUP whose primary role is to coordinate the tripartite mission of Penn Medicine's 18 clinical departments.

Qualified candidates hold MD or MD/PhD degrees and qualify for faculty appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank in the Standing Faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) at the University of Pennsylvania. Candidates must be a respected active clinician with a distinguished national/international record of research, possess dynamic, inclusive leadership, exhibit a strong interest in clinical operations and have significant administrative expertise. Candidates must have a clear commitment to - and excellence in - education, fostering an inclusive environment, and sponsorship and mentorship of a diverse cadre of students, residents, fellows and faculty. Candidates must have the demonstrated ability to foster strong collaborations among investigators within the Department, the PSOM, the campus community and beyond. The candidate must articulate a compelling vision for the future of Radiology at Penn Medicine, the role of the department within a highly regarded academic medical center and the field of radiology in general.
