Pro Tempore and Visiting Faculty - Open Pool
Pro tem instructors are temporary, non-full-time faculty who teach one or more courses in an academic year. Pro tempore positions are potentially renewable based on curriculum needs, funding, and performance. Pro tem instructors work under the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs supervision. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and the pool will remain active through January 2024.
Visiting professor positions are temporary full-time faculty positions at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor that may last from one semester to two years in length. Visiting faculty work under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and the pool will remain active through January 2024. The priority review deadline for applications will be February 8, 2023.
The law school is particularly interested in visiting professor candidates with significant teaching and/or practice experience in the following areas: torts, constitutional law, administrative law, and a range of environmental law upper-level elective courses such as climate change law, energy law, and natural resources law.
In addition, the law school is particularly interested in pro tem candidates with significant teaching and/or practice experience in the following areas:

The Conflict and Dispute Resolution Master’s program addresses a wide scope of non-adversarial dispute resolution options combining broad interdisciplinary training and opportunities for individualized study and skills development. The program is particularly interested in candidates with practice and teaching experience in mediation, arbitration, negotiation, cross-cultural conflict resolution, environmental conflict resolution, international conflict resolution, facilitation, marriage and family mediation, sports conflict, restorative justice, and organizational conflict resolution.
Finally, the law school is interested in candidates with expertise in a variety of law-related subjects who have experience teaching undergraduate legal studies courses and seeks pro tempore instructors for some of those courses as well.
Minimum Requirements
- A J.D. is required for candidates interested in teaching J.D. law courses.
- To teach undergraduate courses in the Legal Studies program or graduate courses in the Conflict and Dispute Resolution program, a Master's degree is required; a Ph.D. or J.D. are preferred.*
- Candidates must have proven ability in their fields of expertise. Proven teaching effectiveness will receive high priority in filling these positions.
*In exceptional circumstances and upon approval by the Academic Dean, extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a graduate degree.
