JOB SUMMARY
The Office of Student Financial Aid Services is seeking an organized, customer-oriented, self-motivated Financial Aid Officer. The incumbent will communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, families, and campus partners, providing financial aid counseling to walk-ins as well as via email and phone calls. Additional duties include serving as a presenter for outreach events, assisting with all aspects of financial aid processing, and leading the coordination of several key administrative areas including but not limited to client services, scholarships, and student employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The hiring range is $54,734-$71,154; salary will be commensurate with education and experience as determined by the University. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to assist with the interpretation of and compliance with Financial Aid regulations governing respective programs, formulation of policy guidelines and procedures, and helps to resolve complex problems in the area of specialization.
- Assists and counsels students/parents in completing the necessary paperwork/processes to complete their financial aid offer. Advises students/parents on bill payment options including federal student and private alternative loan options, Parent (PLUS) loans, Bursar payment plans, etc., and refers students in crisis to proper campus office(s) for counseling/assistance.
- Advises students regarding changes that may impact their financial aid, determines financial need, and evaluates supporting documentation. Uses knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies and professional judgment to evaluate applicant's financial strength and determine appropriate financial aid package.
- Participates in various outreach activities by serving as a financial aid representative at University open house(s) and other outreach activities.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional rules, regulations, statutes, and mandates governing financial aid; and shares updates with the Department that may affect areas of primary and secondary responsibility.
- Assists with all aspects of financial aid processing, including reviewing files and documentation, conducting need analysis and packaging, completing queries to ensure accurate aid offers, processing scholarships, supporting student employment, and assisting with calling campaigns as well as other special projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Three years of financial aid experience.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations that govern the administration of financial aid programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid processes (e.g., FAFSA, Verification, need analysis, and packaging).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong research and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service skills when speaking to clients via phone, in person, or through email.
- Four to five years of progressively responsible financial aid experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience using an automated financial aid system (e.g. PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.).
