The Division of Hospital Medicine of the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking to fill three (3) full-time Advanced Practice Providers (APP). NP or PA eligible. Anticipated schedule may be subject to change.

This individual would provide direct patient care services (i.e. as a “hospitalist”) to medical inpatients at UC Medical Center, with the availability of a collaborating Hospital Medicine physician as needed.

Anticipated Schedule (may be subject to change): Mixed days/nights with an average of 91 nights, 66 days, 157 shifts per year, typically assigned in 7-day blocks. Nights Only – 147 shifts per year. Nights in our observation unit and days on inpatient units, observation unit or consults.

Essential Functions
  • Daily provision of inpatient medical care, including:
    • Patient histories and physical examinations.
    • Review of laboratory and diagnostic results.
    • Independent clinical reasoning and ordering of additional laboratory and diagnostic studies.
    • Adjustments to medical and pharmacological therapies.
    • Daily progress notes.
    • Discharge summaries.
    • Communication with physicians & other providers involved in the patient's care.
    • Billing for E&M services rendered.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Order new medications or adjust existing therapies based on clinical developments.
  • Monitor progress of patients, adjusting therapeutic interventions and engaging a collaborative hospital medicine physician, or specialty consultation, when necessary.
  • Coordination of discharge transitional care & follow up.
  • Participate in the education of nursing staff on the unit.
  • Be actively involved with Quality Management, data collection, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Other activities and/or duties assigned.
Required Education

For Nurse Practitioner:

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.

For Physician Assistant:

Master's Degree from an Accredited Physician Assistant program.

Required Trainings/Certifications

For Nurse Practitioner:
  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
For Physician Assistant:
  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Required Experience

For Nurse Practitioner:
  • Three (3) years nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
For Physician Assistant:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
Additional Qualifications Considered

Prior experience in inpatient care.
