Job Summary

Reporting to the District Director of Web Communications, the Director of Digital Accessibility will be responsible for ensure digital accessibility compliance across online district platforms, and help district set digital accessibility goals and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Creates, implements, and provides ongoing evaluation of the College's accessibility plan
  • Serves as the College's Electronic and Information Resources (EIR) Coordinator to the State
  • Ensures the College's compliance with applicable regulations, i.e., the ADA Title II, Title III, Section 504, Section 508, WCAG 2.1 (A and AA), ATAG 2.0, UAAG 1.0, and the WAI-ARIA
  • Monitors and reports on the College's compliance with applicable state and federal regulations by preparing detailed reports to document identified deficiencies, violations, corrective actions, and recommended solutions for applicable issues
  • Conducts comprehensive accessibility analyses applicable College resources, i.e., public facing websites, digital resources, academic learning environments, accessibility assets, information delivery systems, and applications
  • Leads efforts to establish accessibility standards for the College
  • Identifies the need for changes in policies, procedures, and processes and takes initiative to implement within assigned area of responsibility and inform for others
  • Develops and maintains advisory and consultative relationships with campus personnel to provide input to or consultation related to accessibility resources, needs, etc.
  • Facilitates individual and group training for faculty and staff in the areas of accessibility awareness, remediation of documents for accessibility, and other applicable topics
  • Interprets TCC, State and Federal policies and procedures for students, personnel, and stakeholders
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision

Works under the general supervision of District Director of Web Communications

*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Current certification in one or more of these programs offered by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals:
    • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)
    • Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS)
    • Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA)
    • Accessible Document Specialist (ADS)
    • Certified Professional in Accessible Built Environments (CPABE)
  • Experience working in computer science, management information systems, computer and information systems, or a related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of accessibility analysis, testing, design, and solution development
  • Knowledge of Universal Design (UD) principles in processes, applications, and environments
  • Knowledge of U.S. ADA Title II &III, Section 504 & 508 and Standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium such as WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1, ATAG 2.0, UAAG 1.0, WAIARIA, and MathML, DAISY Standard, and EPUB3
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment – The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
