The SUNY Rochester EOC (REOC) has been an established adult educational facility in the city of Rochester NY for over 50 years. Job Summary: The Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC), part of SUNY Brockport, is accepting applications for a Career Services Advisor. The person in this role provides individual and group vocational advisement to all REOC students to enhance/encourage program retention, completion, and achieve vocational placement goals as determined by SUNY University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD). This position reports to the Job Placement Coordinator and is responsible for supporting and advising students with classroom orientations, resume development, job searches, interviewing skills, and professional portfolio development. The Career Advisor works collegially with the Career Services team, counselors, faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance methods of operation for the benefit of REOC students throughout their program and facilitates continued employment tracking and services with REOC alumni.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in career counseling, student affairs, educational advisement or a related area, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization..
  • Experience working in career and job search coaching methods with diverse populations.
  • Strong, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with and support a diverse population of students, faculty, and employees in remote and in-person environments.
  • Availability to work a minimum of one evening per week during non-summer hours; and occasionally on a Saturday.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with strengths-based career or academic advising methods.
  • Experience related to staffing and employment.
  • Experience with career and personality assessments such as MBTI, Strong's, Strengths Quest, etc.
  • Higher level of technical skill helpful; ability to problem solve and use technical resources in the delivery of resources such as job search databases, online job search, etc.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm; 1 eve/wk during non summer hours
    Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $50,272.
