Summary:
This full-time, 12-month staff position supports the clinical education of pre-licensure nursing students in the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of the nursing skills laboratories, administration of clinical competency testing and clinical remediation, coordination and delivery of the dosage exam review, and coordination of clinical orientation for students and Clinical Supervisors. Additional responsibilities include working with the clinical placement team to facilitate staffing of clinical supervisors and providing 12 contact hours of instruction per year in the pre-licensure nursing program, to include teaching students in the clinical setting. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Participation in nursing unit working groups and course and nursing laboratory meetings is required.

Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in Nursing plus two years’ experience in a clinical specialty area. Must be a Registered Nurse and be Maryland Board of Nursing certified or eligible. Clinical certification and college-level or hospital teaching experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Medium work: exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college environment on a campus with buildings and laboratories separated by some distance. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends. Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide 12 contact hours of instruction per year in the pre-licensure nursing program, including, but not limited to, simulation, clinicals, and laboratory sessions.
  • Manage the nursing skills laboratories, including monitoring inventory, negotiating pricing, placing orders, maintaining supplies and equipment, and coordinating open laboratory sessions.
  • Support the nursing curriculum by working with department faculty and staff to develop, coordinate, and conduct supplemental laboratory sessions for skills practice as needed in specific nursing courses.
  • Plan and implement clinical remediation for students as needed and requested by faculty and/or clinical supervisors and provide documentation of student performance according to department policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate and conduct clinical competency testing and dosage exam review for students.
  • Coordinate the summer clinical orientation session for junior-level and transfer students in the pre-licensure nursing program.
  • Coordinate the orientation of Clinical Supervisors upon hire and on an annual basis.
  • Work with the clinical placement team to facilitate and support the assignment of Clinical Supervisors to student groups, including maintaining an updated roster of available Clinical Supervisors for each semester.
  • Serve on at least one Nursing Unit Working Group and contribute to assessment efforts in support of program accreditation.
  • Participate in course and nursing laboratory meetings and contribute to course development as appropriate.
  • Participate in department recruitment and outreach activities as assigned.
  • Complete trainings and other professional development as assigned.
