Social Media Editor

 

The Cincinnati Enquirer/cincinnati.com part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a social media editor to join our audience engagement team.

 

The ideal candidate should have experience creating and optimizing visual content for social media, be able to effectively connect our journalism with audiences across social platforms and enjoy brainstorming creative ways to grow audiences on new and existing social and off-site platforms.

 

This position is part of the team that manages The Enquirer’s main branded accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, other social platforms and direct audience outreach. The team optimizes the distribution of our journalism on social platforms to attract and engage new audiences. They build trust with our audience by curating a voice on each social platform that reflects the personalities and interests of Cincinnatians while remaining a reliable source for accurate and timely news updates.

 

This role will focus heavily on growing our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts and using those platforms to reach underserved audiences. Creating social graphics and audience engagement plans to reach younger audiences on emerging platforms will be a big priority in this role, as will be using social media to drive subscriptions.

 

We're looking for someone who is well-versed in emerging platforms, enjoys finding creative ways to explain the news on social media through a variety of mediums and has a strong sense of what resonates with the different audiences of our main social media platforms.

 

Candidates should have some experience managing social media at a news outlet, including during breaking news and live events, and be comfortable designing social graphics. Experience working on collaborative audience engagement projects is preferred. Knowledge of analytics tools such as CrowdTangle, Google Analytics, Parse.ly and social engagement insights is also a plus.

 

Responsibilities:   

 

  • Help manage and develop growth strategy for Enquirer’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
  • Lead initiatives to reach younger and underserved audiences on emerging social platforms.
  • Pitch and produce visual content for Instagram and other social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the newsroom on social graphics and rollout plans for enterprise projects.
  • Monitor social media trends for story and content ideas.
  • Brainstorm and pitch audience engagement initiatives with user generated content.
  • Lead newsletter and push alert strategies.
  • Use analytics and surveys to tell us more about who our audience is and how to reach them.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's or master’s in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years’ experience managing social media accounts for a news organization.
  • Experience creating visual news graphics optimized for social
  • Experience working with Canva or similar graphic design tools.
  • Experience using social management tools such as Social News Desk.
  • Experience working with Instagram, TikTok or other emerging social platforms and features is a plus.
