Senior Director of Business Development
Content Ventures, a fast-growing business unit that’s part of the USA TODAY NETWORK is hiring a Senior Director of Business Development to join one of its portfolio companies, Reviewed/reviewed.com, a consumer product review and recommendation website.
This role’s primary responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of Reviewed.com, affiliate business and content to commerce ventures, and take it to the next level. Grow reach, revenue, and profit of USAT commerce business. Help build and define the most loved and useful destination for recommendations + reviews.
This is a fully remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, source, manage and grow major commerce partnerships, new revenue, and audience and content strategies for Reviewed.com / USA TODAY.
- Develop tailored operations and strategies to monetize and increase new sources of revenue for the company; based on strategic partnerships, sales data, search opportunities, and audience insights.
- Research, vet, and launch partnerships that contribute to USA TODAY and Reviewed.com commerce portfolio, by ensuring that they can increase audience, revenue, video views, and/or editorial offerings.
- Develop and launch new content franchises; buy guides, video series, merchandising, storefronts, out of home experiences, conferences, and awards season licensing deals.
- Optimize audience development and grow new affiliate partnerships, deals, direct to consumer brands, preferred retailers and rates, increased referral traffic from new partners, and increased promotion across the existing USA TODAY network, local affiliate sites, and platform partners.
Business Development and Sales
- Tasked with creating and growing strategic partnerships with major technology, consumer electronics, home appliance manufacturers, and emerging product categories. Grow ecommerce revenue and readership by building new partnerships and optimizing existing ones.
Affiliate Partnership Management
- Lead relationships with major retailers; Amazon, Walmart, Google, etc. Grow new and existing retail affiliate partnerships, integrated marketing campaigns, rates negotiations, deals and sales.
Audience Development and Tech
- Support strategies for growing traffic; Paid, Earned, Email. New content and franchises, Targeted Media Buying, SEO and Search (AdWords), TV and OOH (Tod). Work with tech and product teams to test and launch new features and ensure that Reviewed.com is a market leader.
Operations, P&L Management, Contracts / Legal
- Support GM and Content Ventures leadership on all ongoing operations, finance, legal, growth. Monitor and advise on growth in all KPIs, analyze and report on overall business performance.
New Revenue – Sponsorships, D2C, Licensing, Merch
- Develop and sell sponsorships, new awards licensing deals, major advertising and sales packages. Lead all merchandising and direct sales deals, O&O, storefronts, exclusives, etc. Collaborate with the Insider Picks editorial team on any relevant projects or partnerships.
Ongoing Responsibilities
- Research and scope any new potential expansion areas or categories by building business cases and financial models to assess opportunities. Network and engage with others in the affiliate marketing space to stay on top of market developments.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in business, communications, journalism, marketing or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA from a top tier program is preferred.
- 8+years of relevant experience building and growing B2B and B2C businesses; negotiating complex partnerships and/or spearheading growth at an established brand.
- A solid understanding of the affiliate business model, licensing, e-commerce and online merchandising.
- Negotiating and deal making experience.
- Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills; proficiency with P&L development/management.
- An innovative, strategic thinker with excellent judgement.
- Proven ability to establish and grow trusted relationships with executives, peers and business partners.
- An accomplished written and verbal communicator who has excellent presentation skills.
- Comfortable overseeing projects.
- Collaborative and cooperative work style.
- Experience working with technical teams is a plus.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $119,700 and $284,050. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
