Delta State University (DSU) is a public comprehensive institution located in the Mississippi Delta in Cleveland, MS, located on 332 acres, with over 2,700 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate students. Dozens of degree programs on the undergraduate level provide educational opportunities in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Aviation, Education, and the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing. Graduate programs on the master's, educational specialist, and doctoral levels provide advanced training in a broad range of disciplines.

REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:This position will report directly to the President and supervise directly 10 employees and indirectly 250+ faculty and staff associated with Academic Affairs.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for providing leadership and vision for academic direction, serving as the advocate for the faculty, and is responsible for oversight of all academic divisions, departments, and programs, and the services that support them.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
  • Serve as the chief academic officer and as senior vice president in the absence of the President.
  • Provide executive leadership for institutional research and assessment.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with the President, Faculty Senate, faculty, and other vice presidents and directors.
  • Represent the University at System and other external group meetings on matters related to academic affairs.
  • Oversee the University's academic areas, including the faculty, academic programs and curricula, and library.
  • Oversee academic strategic planning, outcomes assessment, and new program development.
  • Provide vision and creative leadership to strengthen the university's mission, support undergraduate and graduate programs, and increase academic excellence.
  • Initiate and support professional development and research opportunities for faculty.
  • Oversee academic retention efforts.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and policy formation in Academic Affairs that includes the Academic Support Lab, for all academic support areas, including the Office of the Registrar, the academic colleges and schools, Library Services, Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies, Office of Institutional Grants and Contracts, The Ford Center for Teaching and Learning, the Student Success Center, and the Delta Center for Culture and Learning.
  • Ensure fair and equitable allocation of resources to support academic and student service.
  • Promote an appreciation for diversity, equity, and inclusion on and off campus
  • Ensure compliance with applicable DOE, SACSCOC, and IHL policies and standards.
  • Support fundraising efforts.


Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution
  • Achieved rank of Professor
  • 3—5 years as an academic administrator in higher education is required
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Distinguished record of teaching, research, and scholarly/creative activity
  • Proven academic and administrative leadership experience
  • Communication, problem-solving, and management skills
  • Program and curricular development, assessment, and distance education experience
  • Commitment to shared governance
  • Strong working relationships with all constituencies


Salary:
12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
